Paris to Prague River Cruise
12 days Paris to Trier, Nuremberg & Prague. .
Day 1-2: Paris
aris, the romantic capital of France and one of the most charming cities
in the world. Paris has it all – history, architecture, art and music
combined with fashion, charming boutiques and fantastic food. And then there
is “something in the air”. Yes, you can definitely feel the
special atmosphere, something that cannot be expressed in words –
you must experience it. On your city tour you see the Eiffel Tower, Latin
Quarter and the Gothic Cathedral of Notre Dame. Drive along the Champs Elysées,
past the Arc de Triomphe and the worldfamous Louvre. You also have free
time to further explore Paris – tour a museum, visit Montmartre or
take a moonlit cruise along the Seine River.
Day 3: Paris & Trier
Travel by coach through France’s scenic countryside to the Meuse-Argonne
Cemetery. Here, pay homage to the many Americans who lost their lives during
the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, the final battle of World War I. Continue to
Verdun to tour The Memorial, a museum dedicated to the Battle of Verdun
in 1916. Continue to Trierwhere you embark your ship.
Day 4: Trier & Bernkastel
Trier, Germany’s oldest city is set on the banks of the Moselle River.
Here you see the Roman Porta Nigra, Trier Cathedral and the Church of Our
Lady. Then sail to Bernkastel where you walk along its cobbled streets to
the Vinothek, the Wine Library of St Nicholas Hospital. Learn about this
important wine-producing region and sample some of the 160 wines they offer.
Day 5: Cochem & Koblenz
Cochem is a quaint Moselle town. See the city’s medieval town gate,
marketplace and churches, followed by a visit to the imposing Reichsburg
Castle. Cruise along the scenic Moselle to Koblenz where you have free time
to explore this town at the intersection of the Rhine and Moselle Rivers.
Day 6: Rüdesheim.
Rüdesheim is famous for its half-timbered houses and cobbled streets.
Your tour features the Niederwald Monument, high above the Rhine River.
You have free time to enjoy Rüdesheim’s restaurants, bars and
shops that line the Drosselgasse, a pedestrian-only street lined with pubs
and restaurants.
Day 7: Wörth & Miltenberg
A coach takes you from the town of Wörth through the dense forests
of the Odenwald region to Amorbach. Tour this former Benedictine monastery
and enjoy a wonderful organ concert. Return to your ship in Miltenberg where
youhave free time to walk this town’s quaint cobbled streets after
dinner.
Day 8: Würzburg
Today’s excursion takes you from Karlstadt to the charming
Franconian wine town of Würzburg where you tour the Bishops’
Residenz, a beautiful baroque palace with many paintings and frescoes. After
lunch in a local Franconian restaurant, your scenic drive passes quaint
wine villages along the Main River with a stop at Church of St Mary in the
Vineyard for an afternoon winetasting. Join your ship in Würzburg.
Day 9: Bamberg
After cruising through the Main-Danube Canal, arrive in Bamberg,
founded in 902. Your walking tour takes you along the cobbled streets of
this wonderfully preserved medieval town with its four-steepled cathedral.
During your free time you can sample the town’s famous locally brewed
smoky-tasting beer, Rauchbier.
Day 10: Nuremberg & Prague
The Bavarian town of Nuremberg is associated with WWII history. Visit the
Zeppelin Field and the Palace ofJustice, site of the Nuremberg Trials. Then
tour the castle grounds for a remarkable view of the city. After lunch on
your own you board a coach for your transfer to Prague. Stop in Pilsen for
some free time before continuing to Prague. Arrive early evening and check
into your hotel; your evening is free.
Day 11: Prague
Today you explore the “City of a Hundred Spires.”
Your guided walk takes you through Old Town to the famed Charles Bridge.
Travel on by coach to Hradcany Castle for a guided tour of the castle grounds
and St Vitus’ Cathedral. You have free time to explore on your own
– you might like to see the Town Hall’s intricate 15th century
Astronomical Clock or explore the
Josefov Quarter to discover the city’s vibrant Jewish heritage.
Day 12: Prague. Hotel check-out.
